The Chamonix Valley

The breathtaking beauty of this magnificent valley sets the scene for more than just truly amazing skiing, including some fantastic sightseeing, easy access to neighbouring Switzerland and Italy and a charismatic, bustling town with over 12,000 permanent residents.

Skiiiiii

Beyond the 4 beginner areas, Le Tour offers gentle blues through the trees or with glorious valleys views. Advanced intermediates and experts can discover some well groomed reds, with little jumps onto and off the pistes, or some of the amazing off-piste runs through the trees back towards the Tete de Balme chair.

Les Grand Montets is world renowned and acts as a magnet for many a hardened skier. With a vertical descent of 2023m, fantastic pistes and endless off-piste potential you can begin to understand it’s popularity. It offers numerous blue pistes, although caters more to the red run or advanced skier, and has a fantastic home run to bring us back for afternoon tea.

Flegere / Brevent are two fascinating ski domains in their own right and are linked so you can enjoy both at once. On the Flegere side the top lifts give you access to great reds and a black run, facing straight towards Mt Blanc and the Aiguille de Midi, while blues and a green cater lower down offering some lovely conditions for beginners. I’m likely to be found anywhere between these slopes on a powder day.

Brevent offers similar terrain to Flegere including a very popular long blue run back to the ‘magic carpet lift’. The top cable car reveals close up detail of Mont Blanc, not seen quite like it anywhere else in the valley, and the run down from there is majestic.

No explanation of our valley could be complete without reference to the great Aiguille de Midi. At 3842m, a trip up here will be with you forever. Whether you take on the 20km Vallee Blanche or simply take the cable car for the ride, the midi reveals close up glacial views, magic snow, and is truly amazing. However, for those who ski the Vallee Blance it’s essential to take a guide.
